Mathieu Fontaine, ND, NDOPEN, Northern Defenders, Tournament

The ND Open, Part 1

Welcome to the 1st part of my journey to attending the ND Open.

THE PRIMER
This should get you a gaming boner and/or a decent warface

The 2014 edition of the tournament marks the 6th year of the tournament.  What started as a 16 player Fantasy tournament is now a 50 Fantasy, 40 40k and 16 warchamine 2 day event and is the biggest event held in Quebec.  This also marks the 2nd year of the Northern Defender Painting Competition, judged by non other than renown painter Mathieu Fontaine.

For work-related reasons, I was not able to attend the tournament for the previous 5 times, although I made a bief apperence last years to win 3 of the 5 categories at the Painting comeptition, this will be my first time as a player, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I have set some quite ambitious goals for this venue.  I hope to enter in at least 4 categories of the painting competition, and hopefully finish top 5 of both painting and sportsmanship in the tournament.  Simply put, I really want to crush it.

I don’t have a lot of goals game wise, as my army ( which I’ll cover in the next article ) is  quite challenging to play, there are quite a few quality players and I have a whooping 4 games of playtest with the army. Should I mysteriously dodge some of the really hard matchups and score a decent sportsmanship and painting score, I think best Overall is possible.

On the Painting competition, I will give it all on 2 entries, then try to push the 3rd and 4th in what time is left.  I know Mathieu made a lot of promo for the competiton, and a lot of great painters are supposed to show up.  I really hope for one 1st place in either of my strong entries, but display minis is not my forte.  I am however always up for a challenge.

If you are attending the event, please know I will crush you.

Best regards.
